Energy Choice and You

Since January 2000, all natural gas customers in New Jersey have been able to choose an alternate supplier other than their current utility. You are not required to choose but have the option to do so if you desire.

Does Choice Mean Savings?

By choosing an alternative fuel provider, customer bills may or may not be reduced for cost of natural gas charges and applicable taxes. However, the resulting decrease in South Jersey Gas' revenues are offset by a corresponding decrease in natural gas costs and taxes under a BPU-approved adjustment clause. While customer participation in the program reduces South Jersey Gas' revenues, it does not affect its net income, financial condition or profit margins.

South Jersey Gas encourages customers to explore the savings possibilities offered by deregulation but urges customers to use caution when selecting a marketer since their savings offers, contracts, terms and conditions may vary significantly. Customers should remember that just because they're using a marketer the savings are not always guaranteed. Each natural gas utility customer should carefully consider the details before entering into any agreement and read the fine print of the agreement before signing any contract.
