1. Can I save money by using natural
gas in my new home?
Yes, you can
save up to 40% over oil, propane and electric.
2. How much
will it cost to have natural gas installed
in my new home?
For many of our
customers, natural gas installation is free
of charge up to the location of our meter.
If the gas main is not in front of your new
home or if the home is not in a designated
area for growth, we will need to do a cost
and measure to determine if we will require
any contribution from you.

3. How do I know if natural gas is
available for my new home?
Just
call our New Business Department at 609-561-9000,
ext. 4323 and we will
provide you with that information. We will need
to know your lot and block numbers, township, and
street.
4. If I tear down my existing home,
disconnect the gas line, and rebuild a new
home how do I reconnect the gas to my new home?
It's
easy. Call our New Business Department at 609-561-9000,
ext. 4323 and we will send you an application
for gas service. We will create a new account
for you and run a gas line to your new home.
5. What if my new home is not near
a natural gas main?
Depending
on the distance between your new home and our
gas main, we may still be able to provide you
with gas service. However, you may have to
pay a portion of the cost for extending the
gas main to your home.
6. What is the first step to getting
gas to my new home?
Contact our
New Business Design Department. We will process
an Application for Gas service and answer any
questions.
7. Is there an application fee?
Yes,
there is a $15.00 non-refundable fee for each unit
or meter that is required at the time of the application.
For example, a single family residence will require
a fee of $15.00, while duplex with 2 units will
require a fee of $30.00.
8. When should I apply for natural
gas to my new home?
The application
should be submitted after you have all final
approvals and you begin site clearing, but
before the foundation is complete.
9. How long will it take to get natural
gas to my new home after the application is
submitted?
It may take 6 to 8
weeks to complete the gas service and meter
installation process.
10. Where will SJG install
my meter?
The standard location
for our meter is in the front of the home or
on the opposite side of your driveway. We also
require a 3’ distance from
a window, dryer vent, electric meter, or AC unit.
In a shore town where the main is running at low
pressure, we will require that your main be inside
the garage or crawlspace. Our New Business Department
will let you know if this applies to you when
we receive your application.
11. Do you offer rebates or incentives?
Rebates
through the NJ Clean Energy Program and Federal
Tax Credits are available for qualifying equipment.
