1. Can I save money by using natural gas in my new home?
Yes, you can save up to 40% over oil, propane and electric.

2. How much will it cost to have natural gas installed in my new home?
For many of our customers, natural gas installation is free of charge up to the location of our meter. If the gas main is not in front of your new home or if the home is not in a designated area for growth, we will need to do a cost and measure to determine if we will require any contribution from you.

For information on smart growth regulations, please call our New Business Design Department at 609-561-9000, ext. 4323.

3. How do I know if natural gas is available for my new home?
Just call our New Business Department at 609-561-9000, ext. 4323 and we will provide you with that information. We will need to know your lot and block numbers, township, and street.

4. If I tear down my existing home, disconnect the gas line, and rebuild a new home how do I reconnect the gas to my new home?
It's easy. Call our New Business Department at 609-561-9000, ext. 4323 and we will send you an application for gas service. We will create a new account for you and run a gas line to your new home.

5. What if my new home is not near a natural gas main?
Depending on the distance between your new home and our gas main, we may still be able to provide you with gas service. However, you may have to pay a portion of the cost for extending the gas main to your home.

6. What is the first step to getting gas to my new home?
Contact our New Business Design Department. We will process an Application for Gas service and answer any questions.

7. Is there an application fee?
Yes, there is a $15.00 non-refundable fee for each unit or meter that is required at the time of the application. For example, a single family residence will require a fee of $15.00, while duplex with 2 units will require a fee of $30.00.

8. When should I apply for natural gas to my new home?
The application should be submitted after you have all final approvals and you begin site clearing, but before the foundation is complete.

9. How long will it take to get natural gas to my new home after the application is submitted?
It may take 6 to 8 weeks to complete the gas service and meter installation process.

10. Where will SJG install my meter?
The standard location for our meter is in the front of the home or on the opposite side of your driveway. We also require a 3’ distance from a window, dryer vent, electric meter, or AC unit.

In a shore town where the main is running at low pressure, we will require that your main be inside the garage or crawlspace. Our New Business Department will let you know if this applies to you when we receive your application.

11. Do you offer rebates or incentives?
Rebates through the NJ Clean Energy Program and Federal Tax Credits are available for qualifying equipment.
