Step 1
 You contact SJG
Contact us to schedule an appointment with one of our representatives. You may also contact us to receive more information on natural gas.

Step 2
 You fill out an application, attach a
 site plan and enclose a check.
Your SJG account representative will determine if natural gas is available at your location. If it is, you will be required to complete an application for gas service.
  
There is a $15 processing fee for each meter required at the time of application along with a copy of your site plan clearly indicating the desired meter location on your home.

Step 3
 SJG reviews your application

SJG will review and process your application. In order to help avoid delays, please be sure to provide all requested information so that we may process your application quickly and efficiently. Your SJG account representative will contact you within 3 days to confirm receipt of your application.

Included in your package is a Gas Service Installation Request Form. This form should be completed and forwarded to your SJG representative at the time your home is framed and under roof.
  
Step 4
 SJG visits your location for
 measurements

A technician will be sent to your property to measure and design the location where your new gas line and meter will be installed.

Please indicate the gas line location on your foundation with the letter “G” or place a stake in the ground marked “gas”.
 
Step 5
 You mark out any underground
 services you may have installed

When your application is approved and you agree to move ahead with the gas line installation, you will need to indicate the location of underground facilities on your property, such as sprinklers, invisible pet fences and, electric or water lines running to outbuildings.
 
On our side, we’ll prepare the design drawings, obtain the necessary street opening permits, and coordinate with the State’s Call Before You Dig call center to arrange for a technician to come out to locate and mark your underground utilities as part of the New Jersey's damage prevention laws.

Throughout this process, your SJG representative will contact you with updates.
 
Once the permits are in hand, we’ll install your natural gas service and activate your meter.

That’s it! You’re now an SJG customer!
