Add these 5 Energy Saving Tips to for Your Fall To-Do List

Add these 5 Energy Saving Tips to for Your Fall To-Do List
Pumpkin spice lattes. Apple picking. Crisper weather. Fall foliage.

It’s not too early to prepare your home for a comfortable and cozy autumn. In doing so, you’ll keep your home running efficiently while conserving energy.

This year, kick off fall with these smart and simple savings tips:

  1. Schedule a fall maintenance check on your HVAC unit. A seasonal inspection of your heating system will ensure that your unit is clean and working properly before the cold weather sets in.
  2. Secure leaks. Prevent cold air from coming through your doors and windows by insulating windows, filling cracks with caulk, hanging heavy curtains and using door and window stoppers to prevent drafts.
  3. Let in the light. Over the hot summer months, we kept cool by closing shades and window treatments during the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, it’s time to raise those shades and soak up the sunlight to save energy while staying comfortable.
  4. Conduct an energy assessment . See where to save the most and consider making a larger investment for long-term energy savings. Consider a FREE Quick Home Energy Checkup, exclusively for SJG customers.
  5. Upgrade to energy-efficient lighting. Now is the time to switch out those incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient lighting. Effective August 1, 2023, a ban on incandescent lightbulbs officially went into effect in the U.S. Here’s what you need to know about the new requirements from the Department of Energy.
