Follow our simple four steps to bring natural gas to your property.
- Builder/property owner applies for service. The following documents are uploaded upon completion of foundation:
- Residential Application for Service
- New Construction Service Information Form - Project description and preferred gas meter location.
- Load Requirements - List of gas equipment including maximum BTU's and preferred delivery pressure.
- Site or Plot Plan - Showing meter location, setback dimensions, and any construction obstructions (well, septic, structures, etc.) clearly marked. Meter Clearance Requirement.
- Application Review and Permitting:
SJG will complete a main service design and conduct a financial analysis to determine if a contrubution is required. SJG will call if there is a cost associated with the installation. If not, permit applications will be submitted to the appropriate municipalities and/or agencies (if required). - SJG's construction team will schedule the Installation after:
- Street opening permits are approved
- Public and private mark outs are completed. Private mark outs are the responsibility of the property owner. View our Meter Locations video.
- Site grading is +/- 6 inches of final grade.
- Exterior siding and roofing must be installed.
- Customer's fuel line must be out with a visible approved inspection sticker.
- Natural Gas Service and Meter are Installed.
Your natural gas service line and meter are installed and the account is activated. IMPORTANT NOTICE: At the time of sale, the property's account must be transferred from the builder's name to the property owner's name, a deposit may be required.
Note: For subdivisions or multi-unit properties with over four units, please contact our team during your planning process at 1.844.611.5605 or newbuild@sjindustries.com. Please provide site plans if available.
Standard installations of natural gas infrastructure totaling 200 feet or less are provided at no charge. However, if the main needs to be extended to your property or if your home is located exceptionally far from the road, a contribution may be required.
SJG will apply for all county/state/municipal permits that are required to provide service to your property. These permits are required for all work within the roadway and public right of way. The builder/homeowner is responsible for applying for all building permits and inspections related to their internal and/or private infrastructure.
The timeline for installation can vary based on many factors including municipal permitting timelines, installation requirements, weather, the overall schedule, etc. Once we receive the permits for the connection to your property, our team will coordinate your service installation when appropriate. South Jersey Gas will typically install when your project is nearing completion of exterior work. Before your natural gas service is installed, please ensure that all private utilities (well, septic, irrigation, etc.) are clearly marked.
For standard-sized single meters, installation typically occurs at the same time as your service line. However, for multi-meter setups with three or more meters, large capacity meters, or high-pressure meters, installation may be scheduled on a different day.
